Old-fashioned creamy cucumber salad has been in our families for generations. Usually, though, people use Mayo, but I wanted to make it healthier. In this article, we venture into the cucumber yogurt salad with a twist. So yogurt takes Mayo’s place to make it just as cream delicious.

I know you can make cucumber salad in different ways, but the one with yogurt is my go-to. Now if you would like to add in the many ingredients, you can, but here we want to make quick fixes. You only need seven essential elements.

Here you will have the perfect accompaniment to the different main meals of your choice. Also, consider eating it as a light dinner meal. It features a simple diced cucumber with yogurt dressing.

Sometimes you want to cool your palate and system down with a bowl of cucumber salad. But why not make it a fun creamy, and delicious option for dinner?

This will be one of the simplest choices that are also easier to make. It takes you about ten minutes to prepare.

Creamy cucumber salad recipe

I made mine with a twist and had additional major ingredients to make it taste better. The policy here is to make sure it’s easy to make, and that’s why we use the common elements in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • Two large cucumbers
  • Four medium-sized tomatoes
  • Two medium-sized onions
  • Lemon or two tablespoons of white vinegar.
  • Half teaspoon of black pepper
  • a 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • A cup of yogurt.

Other optional ingredients

  • Extra virgin oil
  • Parsley
  • Sweeteners like sugar

Method

1. Dice the cucumbers.

First, you can cut them in half lengthwise and then cut the other half. This will give you four parts. Now start dicing it into cube parts and set it in a clean bowl.

2. Chop the onions

Although, if you like, you can dice it into cubes too. I want to cut mine into smaller pieces.

3. Dice the tomatoes into cubes too.

You can easily do it by cutting it lengthwise and then cutting half into the other half. Just do it the same way you did the cucumbers.

4. Set all these in the bowl.

5. Add the remaining ingredients

Now add your lemon juice, the black pepper, salt some extra virgin oil, and then use a spoon to mix it all, ensuring everything is nicely mixed.

Finally, add the yogurt and toss it again to form the creamy cucumber salad. Ensure you throw it correctly and that everything is mixed in to have the perfect color blend.

6. Finish up

Cover and chill or serve immediately.

It’s delicious and creamy, but the best part is for even those watching their diet.

You can eat it whenever you like because it works best at any time. It’s cool, so maybe it’s best during the hotter days. I want to eat it for dinner because I like to eat light.

If you like, you could also serve it alongside your other meals to enrich the flavors further. Whether you want to eat it as a snack or as a main meal at dinner or lunch is a personal preference.

My onions are bitter. What should I do?

Of course, sometimes, we have to deal with onion bitterness. If this is you, here’s a solution.

Cut the onions and set them in a bowl with warm-hot water, then add salt and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Drain the water before you, then add them to the other ingredients in the bowl.

What can I do with the leftovers?

Set it in the fridge but eat it sooner because it tends to become watery. You can serve it the next day with your other favorite meals. Or learn to reduce the watery nature.

Is it best served chilled or at room temperature?

Let’s say this is about personal preference. Some people like it very cold, while others don’t mind it at room temperature. If you want it chilled, remember to set it in the fridge for a few minutes before eating.

What does it taste like?

Let’s say it’s refreshing. But it also has a tangy, chilly, creamy taste and crunchy texture. Remember, it has a blend of different ingredients and flavor levels; expect it to be tasty.

Must I use the extra virgin oil?

It gives it a different level of richness, but you will not even know that you didn’t use it. If you have it, use it for great with salads, but if you don’t have it for now, still make the salad as it is, and the yogurt will make you forget you didn’t even add the oil.

Must I use greek yogurt?

For a more healthy version, greek yogurt will make everything easy. It has minimal calories, and yet it remains pretty delicious. It’s ideal for those watching their diet too. However, you can use the regular ones if you don’t have one.

How can I stop the watery nature?

This isn’t very pleasant, especially if you deseed the cucumbers. Some say that if you deseed it you reduce the watery nature, but it doesn’t.

Add salt to the cucumber before adding the other ingredients to make it stay without water.

There are various dishes you could serve with cucumber salads. It can be a side dish to the different meal options you do.
